In 1983 the Pearsalls retired from their jobs near Seattle, WA and headed for sunshine, possibly New Mexico where they would build an adobe building and experience real low-back pain by building a structure with thier own hands.
Following a week long "how to build with fired adobe blocks" in Tucson, AZ it was suggested they visit a historic adobe village south of Tucson called Tubac before travelling on to New Mexico.
Off they went to Tubac where they visited shops and galleries and then asked where the old fired adobe Post Office was. They were shown the way to Placita de Anza where they discovered an interesting building made of fired adobe with a "For Sale" sign on it. After talking with local folks they learned it had been for sale for quite some time as were other buildings in the area. They talked with the owners and in January 1984 the Pearsalls were the proud new owners of the old fired adobe Post Office.
The building had been divided into separate office spaces to accommadate four businesses. The architecture was the style of Alamos in Sonora Mexico, much like the old national historic silver mining city deep in Sonora State. The Pearsalls visited there and indeed found thier own building to look just like those in that beautiful city
.
After they remodeled the inside to suit thier needs, they ended up with two rooms they didn't require for their lifestyle and so twenty five years ago they began thier Tubac Bed and Breakfast business with those two rooms and have been enjoying guests ever since!
